On events days, traffic management safety controls including road closures will occur on roads associated with the Puffing Billy Running Festival.

This will occur between 6:00 am and 1:30 pm and includes the race route and surrounding roads.

Please note the race will start at 8:40 am in Belgrave.

Areas most affected are between Belgrave and Emerald Lake Park, Emerald. Motorists are required to obey directions from Police and Traffic Controllers and be aware of runners on the roads.

Puffing Billy Railway apologises for any inconvenience caused to residents and motorists during this period.

5 Main Areas Affected

Below are the diversion instructions concerning five (5) designated areas, along with estimated times when major roads will be closed.

Please note: These are approximate times only – depending on the pace of the runners.

1. Belgrave to Selby

  • A high volume of traffic within the Belgrave area from 6:30 am to 9:00 am.
  • Parking will be extremely limited at Belgrave from 6:30 am to 1:30 pm.
  • Belgrave-Gembrook Road between Belgrave and Selby closed 7:45 am to 9:15 am.

2. Selby to Menzies Creek

  • Selby-Aura Road closed from 8:00 am to 9:30 am.

3. Menzies Creek to Clematis

  • Menzies Road closed between Selby-Aura Rd and Belgrave-Gembrook Rd between 8:15 am to 10:30 am.
  • NOTE: Race now utilises off-road railway walking trail between Menzies Road and Emerald.

4. Clematis to Emerald

  • Belgrave-Gembrook Rd closed to all traffic between Wellington Road and Emerald Main Road rail crossing from 9:15 am to 11:00 am.
  • Belgrave-Gembrook Rd Rail Crossing Closed between 8:15am – 10:30am.
  • Pinnocks Rd Closed at Belgrave-Gembrook Rd between 8:30am – 10:30am.

Major delays up to sixty (60) minutes are expected within this area.

5. Emerald to Emerald Lake Road

  • Emerald Main Road Rail Crossing closed from 8:30 am to 10:45 am.
  • Kilvington Drive Rail Crossing closed from 8:30 am to 10:45 am.
  • Emerald-Beaconsfield Road Rail Crossing closed from 8:45 am to 11:00 am.
  • Traffic travelling to Emerald from Beaconsfield should detour at Paternoster Road and travel via Cockatoo.
  • Traffic travelling to Belgrave from Cockatoo should detour at Emerald-Monbulk Road and travel via Monbulk.

Major delays up to sixty (60) minutes are expected within this area.
