Your competitor – Puffing Billy!

Run against your family and friends while on board their competitor, Puffing Billy.

Based on personal training schedules and abilities, each runner nominates which train they compete against.

As with all 120-year-old steam locomotives, their race time varies based on a number of factors, including track conditions, weather, and food (coal) intake leading into the race.

DAY 1 - SATURDAY

5KM FUN RUN RACE TRAIN – LAKESIDE TO PACKING SHED RETURN

The Saturday scheduled 5km Race Train is as follows:

  • Saturday 5km Race Train starts at 11:00am and is scheduled to complete the course within 23 - 30 minutes.
  • The train will depart from Lakeside Station, right next to the race start / finish area. It will chug up the climb to the Nobelius Packing Shed at the top of the course before racing back down to the race start / finish area again.
  • Train tickets must be booked through the Race Registration system. To book, look out for the option on the CONFIRMATION page OR log-in to your RaceRoster Participant Dashboard after you have registered to find a link.
  • Passengers are required to follow all instructions of Puffing Billy Railway staff and volunteers.
  • Children under the age of twelve months can travel for free, however, they must book a seat. Please note, they must be sitting on their guardians lap.

TO AND FROM THE EVENT –  BELGRAVE TO LAKESIDE RETURN

Why not enjoy the full Puffing Billy family experience and ride aboard a steam locomotive to and from Belgrave to Lakeside Station in Emerald Lake Park.

From Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park: A special train from Belgrave at 8:30am and arrive at Lakeside Station in Emerald Lake Park at 9:30am.

Returning from Emerald Lake Park to Belgrave: For the return trip to Belgrave, a special train will depart Lakeside Station in Emerald Lake Park 12:30pm and arrive at Belgrave at 1:30pm.

DAY 2 - SUNDAY

 RACE TRAINS – BELGRAVE TO LAKESIDE

The Sunday scheduled Race Train times are as follows:

  • Race Train #1 start time is 8.50 am and is scheduled to complete the course within 50 – 60 minutes. SOLD OUT
  • Race Train #2 start time is 9.10 am and is scheduled to complete the course within 65 – 75 minutes. LIMITED SEATS

RETURN TRIP – LAKESIDE (EMERALD LAKE PARK) TO BELGRAVE

Participants-only early train: For the return trip to Belgrave, this early service will depart Emerald Lake Park (Finish line) at 10.30 am and arrive at Belgrave (Start line) at 11.30 am. 

  • Train tickets for the participants-only train must be booked through the Race Registration platform as part of the registration process.
  • Passengers are required to follow all instructions of Puffing Billy Railway staff and volunteers.
  • Passengers must adhere to all Puffing Billy Railway conditions of travel.

Returning to Belgrave onboard one of the Race Trains, alongside your family and friends (limited availability):

  • If you are purchasing tickets for your family and friends for one of the race trains, you have the option to return to Belgrave on the same train as them post-run.
  • Information on how to utilise this option will be available when your registration is confirmed.
