On events days, traffic management safety controls including road closures will occur on roads associated with the Puffing Billy Running Festival.

This race will occur between 8:45 am and 11:00 am and includes the race route and surrounding roads.

Please note the race will start at 8:45 am in Belgrave on Sunday.

Areas most affected are between Belgrave and Emerald Lake Park, Emerald. Motorists are required to obey directions from Police and Traffic Controllers and be aware of runners on the roads.

Puffing Billy Running Festival team apologises for any inconvenience caused to residents and motorists during this period.

FIVE Main Areas Affected:

Below are the five (5) main areas of the Classic race route, along with estimated times when major roads will be impacted.

Please note: These are approximate times only – depending on the pace of the runners.

1. Belgrave to Selby

  • 6:30am - 9:00am - A high volume of traffic within the Belgrave area. Parking will be extremely limited at Belgrave.
  • 7:30am - 9:05am - Belgrave-Gembrook Rd between Bayview Rd roundabout and Station St roundabout closed for race start.
  • 8:30 am to 9:30 am - Belgrave-Gembrook Road between Belgrave and Selby closed. Runners on road.

2. Selby to Menzies Creek

  • 8:30 am to 10:00 am: Selby-Aura Road closed. Runners on road.
  • ~ 8:53 am - First runner expected at cnr of Selby-Aura Road and Belgrave-Gembrook Road.
  • ~ 9:25 am - Last runner expected at cnr of Selby-Aura Road and Belgrave-Gembrook Road.

3. Menzies Creek to Clematis

  • ~ 9:07 am - First runner expected at Menzies Creek Fire Station.
    ~ 10:05am - Last runner expected at Menzies Creek Fire Station.
  • 8:30 am - 10:15 am: Menzies Road between Selby-Aura Rd and Belgrave-Gembrook Rd: traffic controls in place. Runners on road.
  • NOTE: Race now utilises off-road railway walking trail between Menzies Road and Emerald.

4. Clematis to Emerald

  • 9:00 am to 10:25 am - Pinnocks Rd at Belgrave-Gembrook Rd: traffic controls in place

5. Emerald to Emerald Lake Road

  • ~ 9:17 am - First runner expected at Emerald Puffing Billy Park.
    ~ 10:28am - Last runner expected at Emerald Puffing Billy Park.
  • 9:15am - 10:30am - Emerald Main Road Rail Crossing: traffic controls in place.
  • 9:15am - 10:35 am - Kilvington Drive Rail Crossing: traffic controls in place.
  • 9:15am - 10:40 am - Emerald-Beaconsfield Road Rail Crossing: traffic controls in place.
  • Traffic travelling to Emerald from Beaconsfield should detour at Paternoster Road and travel via Cockatoo.
  • Traffic travelling to Belgrave from Cockatoo should detour at Emerald-Monbulk Road and travel via Monbulk.

Major delays up to sixty (60) minutes are expected within the Emerald area.
